Takt Time Calculator

Calculate the takt time — the required production rate to meet customer demand — for your production line.

Total shift time minus breaks. e.g. 8hr shift − 30min breaks = 450 min
How many units must be produced per shift to meet orders
Enter to compare cycle time vs takt time

How This Calculator Works

Takt Time (seconds) = Available Time (sec) ÷ Customer Demand (units) Available Time = Shift Duration − Breaks − Planned Downtime

Takt vs Cycle Time

Takt Time = rate at which products must be made (demand-driven)
Cycle Time = rate at which products are actually made (capacity-driven)

Takt Time in Lean Manufacturing

Takt time is the fundamental heartbeat of lean manufacturing. It tells you exactly how fast your production line needs to run to satisfy customer demand — no faster, no slower. Overproducing (cycle time much faster than takt) creates inventory waste. Underproducing (cycle time slower than takt) creates delivery delays. Balancing your line to takt time is the foundation of flow production.
