Transformer Loading Formula
Transformer loading represents how much electrical load is connected to a transformer compared to its rated capacity. Monitoring transformer loading helps prevent overheating, improve efficiency, and ensure safe operation of electrical distribution systems.
Transformer Loading Formula
Transformer Loading (%) = (Actual Load / Rated Transformer Capacity) × 100
Formula Explanation
- Actual Load – Current electrical load connected to the transformer.
- Rated Transformer Capacity – Maximum power rating of the transformer (kVA).
The result indicates how heavily the transformer is loaded relative to its rated capacity.
Example Calculation
If a transformer rated at 1000 kVA is currently supplying a load of 750 kVA:
Transformer Loading = (750 / 1000) × 100 = 75%
This means the transformer is operating at 75% of its rated capacity.
