Water Purifier (RO) Electricity Cost Calculator

See how many units your RO/UV water purifier uses and what it costs per day, month and year.

💧 A water purifier is a tiny electrical load — usually under ₹50 a month. The pump runs only to fill the tank. The bigger cost is filter replacement and the water it rejects.
UV ~25, RO ~40, RO+UV+UF ~60 W
Time the pump actually runs

💡 Bigger savings elsewhere: electricity is minor here. Collect the RO reject water (2–3 L per litre purified) for mopping or plants, and replace filters on time to keep the pump efficient.
Formula: Units/day = Power (kW) × Run Hours  |  Cost = Units × Tariff (₹/unit)

How This Calculator Works

A water purifier's pump and UV lamp draw power only while purifying to fill the storage tank. Consumption is its wattage times the time it actually runs each day.

Most homes purify 10–20 litres a day, which is only a few hours of pump run time.

How Water Purifier Electricity Use Is Calculated

An RO purifier's pump (and UV lamp, if any) run only while filling the tank, so its consumption is the wattage multiplied by the actual run time per day — not 24 hours. The electrical cost is small; the running costs that matter are filter/membrane replacement and the reject water.

Units per Day = Power (kW) × Run Hours per Day Cost per Day (₹) = Units per Day × Tariff (₹/unit) Cost per Month (₹) = Cost per Day × Days Used

Worked Example — 40 W RO, 3 hrs run/day

40 W = 0.04 kW  |  3 run-hours/day  |  30 days  |  ₹8/unit

Units/day = 0.04 × 3 = 0.12 units
Cost/month = 0.12 × 30 × ₹8 = ₹29/month

Frequently Asked Questions

About 25–60 W while running. An RO+UV+UF unit draws ~40–60 W and runs only to fill its tank (2–4 hours/day total), so ~0.1–0.2 units/day — about ₹25–50/month at ₹8/unit.

Very little. A 40 W RO running ~3 hours/day uses ~0.12 units/day, about ₹1/day or ₹29/month. Filter replacement and water wastage matter more than electricity.

Yes — about 2–3 litres rejected per litre purified. The electricity is cheap, but collect the reject water for mopping, gardening or flushing rather than letting it drain.

You can, and it slightly reduces standby use and protects the unit, but the saving is only a rupee or two a month — the pump runs only when the tank needs refilling.
