⚡ Bill Estimate

Electricity Bill Calculator (State-wise)

Enter your units, pick your state, and get an estimated monthly bill with energy charge, fixed charge and duty. Edit any slab to match your tariff exactly.

Your bill is not just units × one rate. It is telescopic slabs plus a fixed charge and duty. This calculator splits your units across slabs the way your DISCOM does — so you can see exactly where the money goes.

How This Calculator Works

It splits your units across the slabs telescopically — each slab billed at its own rate — then adds the fixed charge and applies duty/taxes on top.

Pick your state to load typical rates, then fine-tune any field from your latest bill for an exact figure. The breakdown table shows exactly how each slab contributes.

How an Electricity Bill Is Calculated in India

A domestic electricity bill is built from three parts: the energy charge (units billed through telescopic slabs), a fixed/demand charge based on your sanctioned load, and duty and taxes applied on top. A fuel or power-purchase adjustment surcharge also rides on the energy charge and changes month to month.

Energy Charge = Σ (units in each slab × slab rate) Subtotal = Energy Charge + Fixed Charge Total Bill = Subtotal + (Subtotal × Duty% ÷ 100) Effective Rate = Total Bill ÷ Units

Worked Example — 250 units (Maharashtra-style slabs)

Slabs: 0–100 @ ₹4.71, 101–300 @ ₹10.29  |  Fixed: ₹110  |  Duty: 16%

First 100 units = 100 × 4.71 = ₹471
Next 150 units = 150 × 10.29 = ₹1,544
Energy Charge = ₹2,015 + Fixed ₹110 = ₹2,125
Duty 16% = ₹340 → Total ≈ ₹2,465  (effective ≈ ₹9.86/unit)

Tips to Lower Your Bill

  • Stay in lower slabs — each higher slab costs much more per unit
  • Use 5-star inverter ACs, fridges and fans
  • Switch all lighting to LED and remove standby loads
  • For big savings, consider rooftop solar with net metering — it can offset most of your units

Frequently Asked Questions

It has three parts: energy charge, fixed charge and duty/taxes. The energy charge is telescopic — your units are split across slabs, each billed at its own rate. A fixed charge based on sanctioned load is added, then electricity duty and a fuel adjustment surcharge. This calculator sums all of these.

Tiered per-unit charges that rise with consumption, applied telescopically. If 0–100 units cost ₹4 and 101–300 cost ₹8, then for 250 units you pay ₹4 on the first 100 and ₹8 on the next 150 — not ₹8 on all 250.

Because of the fixed/demand charge on sanctioned load, electricity duty (a percentage tax), a monthly fuel/power-purchase adjustment surcharge, and sometimes meter rent or municipal tax. Together these add roughly 10–25% over the basic energy charge.

Enter your units, pick your state to load typical slabs, then adjust the slab limits, rates, fixed charge and duty to match your latest bill. The calculator applies the slabs telescopically and adds fixed charge and duty for an estimated total and effective ₹/unit.

They are indicative starting points and may not match the latest tariff order for your DISCOM and category. Tariffs change yearly and vary by sanctioned load and urban/rural status. For an exact figure, copy the slab limits and rates from your own bill into the editable fields.

Keep units in lower slabs with 5-star inverter appliances, AC at 24–26°C, LED lighting and no standby loads. For bigger savings, rooftop solar with net metering can offset most of your consumption and pay back in 3–5 years after subsidy.
