How This Calculator Works

Daily Generation (kWh) = kWp × Peak Sun Hours × Efficiency% Monthly Saving = Self-use kWh × Tariff + Export kWh × Export Rate

For most Indian factories, rooftop solar with self-consumption gives payback in 4–6 years and generates savings for 20+ years.

Rooftop Solar for Indian Factories — Key Facts

India receives some of the highest solar irradiation in the world — Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra average 5–6 peak sun hours per day year-round. A 100 kWp rooftop system typically generates 130,000–160,000 kWh per year. At ₹8/kWh, this represents ₹10–13 lakh/year in savings with typical system cost of ₹35–45 lakh — giving a payback of 3–5 years.

Net Metering in India

Most state DISCOMs now offer net metering for industrial consumers up to 1 MW. Excess solar generation is exported to the grid and credited against your electricity bill at a fixed rate (typically ₹3–5/kWh). Check with your local DISCOM for the current net metering rate and application process.
