⚠️ Slab traps in Delhi: 201 and 401 units

Delhi's subsidy is generous but has two hard edges. Up to 200 units the government pays your whole bill. At 201 units that stops, and you get 50% off (up to ₹800). With a 2 kW connection and 10% FPPAS, 200 units cost you ₹0 but 201 units cost ₹418.

The second edge is at 400 units: 400 units cost ₹1,200 after the ₹800 subsidy, while 401 units cost ₹2,008 because the subsidy ends completely — ₹808 for one extra unit. If you are close to 200 or 400 units, a few units saved in the last days before the reading make a big difference.

Worked example — 300 units, 2 kW, with subsidy

Units 1–200 × ₹3.00₹600.00
Units 201–300 × ₹4.50₹450.00
Fixed charge₹40.00
Deficit surcharge @ 8%₹87.20
Pension trust surcharge @ 7%₹76.30
Fuel surcharge (FPPAS) @ 10%₹109.00
Electricity tax @ 5%₹52.50
Delhi government subsidy−₹707.50
Total₹707.50

Assumes a 30-day bill; the subsidy limits are pro-rated for other billing periods. Arrears and late-payment charges are not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, for homes in the Delhi government subsidy scheme. If you use up to 200 units in a month, the entire current bill — including fixed charge, surcharges, FPPAS and tax — is paid by the government. From 201 to 400 units you get 50% off, up to ₹800 a month.

About ₹708 a month with the subsidy (2 kW load, 10% FPPAS), or ₹1,415 without it.

At 200 units the subsidy covers the whole bill, so you pay ₹0. At 201 units only 50% is covered, so the bill becomes about ₹418.

An 8% deficit surcharge and a 7% pension trust surcharge on energy + fixed charges, a fuel surcharge (FPPAS) set every month as a percentage, and 5% electricity tax on the energy charge.

FPPAS (fuel and power purchase adjustment surcharge) passes changes in power-purchase cost on to consumers as a monthly percentage. BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna levy 10% for September 2026; check the rate printed on your bill.
