Why a Gujarat bill is much higher than the slab rate

Gujarat's slabs look cheap — ₹3.05 to ₹5.20 a unit — and they are telescopic, so there's no sudden slab trap. The surprise is what comes on top. For 200 units in a town (2 kW):

  • Slab energy charge: ₹742.50
  • Fuel surcharge (FPPAS ₹2.45/unit + 3.99%): ₹539.78
  • Electricity duty (15% of everything): ₹194.59

So the bill is ₹1,492 — about ₹7.46 per unit, not ₹4.15. Only about 50% of the bill is the slab charge. FPPAS changes every quarter, so the same units can cost more or less next quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

For UGVCL, DGVCL, PGVCL and MGVCL homes in towns: ₹3.05 for the first 50 units, ₹3.50 for 51–100, ₹4.15 for 101–250 and ₹5.20 above 250 (rural rates are 40 paise lower in most slabs). On top of that come the fuel surcharge (FPPAS, ₹2.45/unit + 3.99% from July 2026), a small fixed charge and electricity duty.

About ₹1,492 a month in a town and ₹1,305 in a village, for a 2 kW connection with July–September 2026 FPPAS.

FPPAS is the fuel and power purchase adjustment surcharge. From July 2026 it is ₹2.45 per unit plus 3.99% of energy, base FPPAS and fixed charges. It is revised every quarter.

15% for urban homes and 7.5% for rural homes, on all charges payable to the DISCOM (energy, fixed and FPPAS). Rural homes using 250 units or less in a year are exempt.
