⚠️ Slab traps in Rajasthan

In Rajasthan the fixed charge depends on how many units you use, and the surcharge and urban cess change at 100 units for all your units. So at a few points, one extra unit costs far more than the unit before it. For an urban home:

  • At 101 units: the bill goes from ₹798 to ₹850 — ₹53 for one unit
  • At 151 units: the bill goes from ₹1,220 to ₹1,379 — ₹159 for one unit
  • At 301 units: the bill goes from ₹2,653 to ₹2,861 — ₹209 for one unit
  • At 501 units: the bill goes from ₹4,563 to ₹4,872 — ₹309 for one unit

If your reading is just above one of these points, using a few units less saves far more than the units themselves are worth.

Worked example — 200 units, urban

Units 1–50 × ₹4.75₹237.50
Units 51–150 × ₹6.00₹600.00
Units 151–200 × ₹7.00₹350.00
Regulatory surcharge @ ₹1.00/unit₹200.00
Electricity duty @ ₹0.40/unit₹80.00
Urban cess @ ₹0.15/unit₹30.00
Fixed charge₹300.00
Total₹1,797.50

Free-unit schemes and any monthly FPPAS true-up are not included. Some reports say the fixed-charge bracket follows last year's average use rather than this month's — check your bill.
